Westpac Banking Visit

On Thursday Mrs Shaw came into Room 12 to tell us about banking and opening a savings account at Westpac.  We had lots of questions for her to help us understand more about saving money.

In our class this term we have had our own cash books and money bag.  We have been learning how to write money in, money out and the total amount of money we have.

We checked out the Westpac website and found some fun games that will help us learn more about the saving money.

Check out the website:
Go to Managing your Money
Then go to kids' space and play some of the cool games they have for us kids to play.

Maths Changeover - Time

This week we are learning about time in our numeracy changeover class.  Mrs Rolton has put an analogue and a digital clock face onto Rm12's blog page.

Which clock can you read?

Which clock face can you read the best and why?

How many seconds in a minute?

How many minutes in an hour?

How many hours in a day?

How many hours in a week?  What multiplication strategy did you use to answe that question?

Scotland arrives in Southland

Room 12 have completed their Banner

Heading upstairs at Invercargill Airport

Attaching the Banner for all to see

Wow doesn't it look fantastic?!
Yesterday the Scottish rugby team were arriving in Invercargill.  Mrs Rolton thought this would be a good opportunity to welcome the team to our city.  We made a banner by adding flags, Scotsman playing the bagpipes and a Loch Ness monster.  Thanks to Mrs McCambridge and Mrs Dallas taking us to the airport, while Mrs Rolton waited patiently to hear about our adventure.
We had so much fun and discovered these things about Scotland...
The Scottish flag has a navy blue background and a white cross.  It is called the St Andrew cross or Saltire.  It is one of the oldest flags in the world, dating back to the 12th century.
A Scotsman wears a kilt that is made out of tatan.  Tatan designs belong to clans - we think clans are like a family or iwi.
The Loch Ness Monster is a mysterious unidentified freshwater creature.  We think this is like a myth, it might be like a taniwha.

QuadBlogging

Well it is all very exciting - we have been allocated the schools for our QuadBlogging journey that will go to the end of the school year.  We will be visiting, commenting and hopefully making some other connections like Skyping with the following schools in the world.

High Lawn Primary School
England

Horwich Parish
United Kingdom

Jefferson West Elementary School
United Stateof America

Check out our World Map and see where in the world these schools are.  You could extend your knowledge with some research of their Flag, Population, National Anthem, National Symbols, time zone and what season they are in at the moment.

Also are any of these countries participating in the Rugby World Cup?
