Room 12 and 4 Buddy Classes

Rm 12 & 4 Buddy Classes on PhotoPeach

A few weeks ago Room 12 made little people from a cardboard people stencil for Room 4 our buddy class.  We put them inside a envelope then wrote four things about ourselves so they can remember us.  A couple of days later we went to Room 4 to give them our little people, that we made for them.
We gave them to our buddy's then we told them four things about ourselves.  Next they told us 4 things about them.  We asked our buddy's what was something they now know about us to see if they had listened.  Our buddy's played with their cardboard people, then it was time to leave.
Mrs Rolton asked Room 12. "How do we say goodbye in Maori?" Room12 said, "E  Noho Ra." and Room 4 replied, "Harere Ra."  E noho means to sit so we say E Noho Ra to the person sitting or staying.  The person staying says Haere Ra to the person leaving or Ka Kite Ano which means see you again.  We really hope our  buddy liked the people we made for them.

Discovery Time Camping

Discovery Time - Camping on PhotoPeach

Last  week at Discovery Time we did camping.  We all had toasted mashmellows.  Tyler, Theissen and Anakie and  I were trying on shoes that would be good on camp.  Then we all went for a walk,  we had a map to find where we had to go.  We didn't follow the map and then we got lost so we looked at the map to find why we went the wrong way.  We did the right thing and looked at the map.

Last week at Discovery Time we discovered things about camping.  I worked with Mia, Theissen, Chloe, Kathryn and Madison.  We were trying to put up a tent we didn't quite finish it because there were some other people doing the same activity as us and they got all the equipment first.  So we had to find some other equipment in the class, so the tent would stand up.  We were doing our activites while Mrs Mckee toasted marshmallows with groups of people.  Tyler was the first person in our group to get a marshmallow.  They were gooey but very nice!   Discovery time last week was awsome and lots of fun.

Blog Comments Success Criteria

Over the last month we have been commenting on our friends blogs on the other side of the world.

We had these hints and tips to support us when writing comments.

However we still found we were making the odd mistake when we made comments.

So we looked at creating a success criteria.

We keep a copy handy by our digital devices so we can check in with our achievements when blogging.

Get to know who your classmates are...

Michael has written three things about himself on a
piece of paper, he then put it into the balloon.

Aidan has completed his balloon and Kaea is writing his three things about himself onto a piece of paper.

We placed the balloons in a sheet like a parachute.
We stood in a circle and Mrs Rolton flung the sheet into
the air to release the balloons.

Theissen found a balloon and popped it to reveal the
information about someone in Room 12.

We all read our mystery information and tried to
figure out who it belonged to.

Some mystery information was hard to solve so we had to
talk to people to help us eliminate who it was.

Learning Spaces Day One 2012

Tote trays for students who have a learning
space for the whole day
MSSR at the couch

MSSR at desks independently
MSSR at Learning Spaces

MSSR at desks in groups

Today the Room 12 class of 2012 had their first interactive discovery with learning spaces.  Some of the students were excited at the thought of using tables instead of the traditional desks.  However some were still keen to use a desk.  Some chose to sit in groups, pairs or independently, as the day unfolded students chose to move around and sit on bean bags, stand at tables and make choices for themselves about where they could learn best for that particular learning moment.  Wow - this was an amazing 1st day on our new journey of learning!
