100 Word Challenge - School Fair
Having a School Fair for the first time was a wonderful experience. As the New River students could let their entrepreneurial skills shine. Our School Fair was truly amazing, hearing the laughter made me feel like I was over the moon. Having customers that are really excited about the School Fair is pretty Awesome! right?? I enjoyed the School Fair, I was really confident with selling our products and I knew that they would love it. We also made a raffle ticket, when we sold all the tickets we shouted to Mrs Rolton " WE ARE FINISHED" we were filled with happiness.

Happy 11th Birthday Dezia on 11-11-11
ROBYN EDIE/FAIRFAX NZ
HAPPY BIRTHDAY: New River Primary School pupil Dezia Dixon turns 11 today. Ask Jamie Williams of Nightcaps just how long he has been waiting for 11/11/11. "Ages," he said this week, as the buildup for the most celebrated birthday of his life so far takes place. At a quick break from school at St Patrick's School in Nightcaps, the soon-to-be 11-year-old was pretty cool about the lucky number he was counting down to. He was looking forward to taking off for the day, to go go-karting with his friends and family, but the best part of turning 11 on 11/11/11 was the gift he was anticipating: a beagle puppy arriving from the North Island. Jamie said it was the best birthday gift he's received – an Xbox from his older brother was a close second though, he said. "That was cool, but this is better." Jamie's mother, Debbie Williams, said this was not the first time Jamie had hit a lucky number. Eleven years ago, Jamie featured in The Southland Times as the 300th baby born at Winton Maternity Home. The lucky streak has continued for two other children also celebrating their 11th birthdays today. Dezia Dixon, who attends New River Primary School, said having a special birthday was exciting, a little bit weird but special. She starts her birthday with a test for high school and then her mum plans to take her out for lunch. Ashley Johnstone, formerly of Edendale and now living in Blenheim, is celebrating her birthday with a trip to Hanmer Springs. The family moved to Blenheim in August and Ashley's mum had always envisaged a large get-together with family and friends around a bonfire had they not moved. She and husband Carl had figured out the milestone shortly after Ashley was born. Ashley, however, who goes to Rapaura School, had cottoned on in the past few months. She wanted a scooter for her birthday and said she and her friends at school thought the occasion was pretty cool. zToday also marks the anniversary of the Armistice that ended hostilities on the Western Front of the World War I. It was the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month when hostilities ceased on the Western Front in 1918.

Westpac Banking Visit
On Thursday Mrs Shaw came into Room 12 to tell us about banking and opening a savings account at Westpac. We had lots of questions for her to help us understand more about saving money.
In our class this term we have had our own cash books and money bag. We have been learning how to write money in, money out and the total amount of money we have.
We checked out the Westpac website and found some fun games that will help us learn more about the saving money.
Check out the website:
Go to Managing your Money
Then go to kids' space and play some of the cool games they have for us kids to play.

Scotland arrives in Southland
Room 12 have completed their Banner |
Heading upstairs at Invercargill Airport |
Attaching the Banner for all to see |
Wow doesn't it look fantastic?! |
We had so much fun and discovered these things about Scotland...
The Scottish flag has a navy blue background and a white cross. It is called the St Andrew cross or Saltire. It is one of the oldest flags in the world, dating back to the 12th century.
A Scotsman wears a kilt that is made out of tatan. Tatan designs belong to clans - we think clans are like a family or iwi.
The Loch Ness Monster is a mysterious unidentified freshwater creature. We think this is like a myth, it might be like a taniwha.
QuadBlogging
Well it is all very exciting - we have been allocated the schools for our QuadBlogging journey that will go to the end of the school year. We will be visiting, commenting and hopefully making some other connections like Skyping with the following schools in the world.
High Lawn Primary School
England
Horwich Parish
United Kingdom
Jefferson West Elementary School
United Stateof America
Check out our World Map and see where in the world these schools are. You could extend your knowledge with some research of their Flag, Population, National Anthem, National Symbols, time zone and what season they are in at the moment.
Also are any of these countries participating in the Rugby World Cup?

In the Weekend
In the weekend on Saturday my Nana came to watch my rugby game out at standpoint rugby grounds. It was the day to beat Marist. Most of as thought that we could not beat them in the first half of the game because the score was 31 to 10 we had 10 but after a team talk we said we can beat them. Then in the second half we didn't miss any of our tackles.

In the Weekend
In the Weekend (Saturday), My Uncle and my cousin from Samoa arrived at Dunedin Airport. So we went to Dunedin Airport, It was big. We waited for maybe 3 minutes and then they arrived we were so happy and joyful because we haven't seen them since 2002. My Uncle Feagaiga gave me $3 to play games with my cousin, we played shot gun. Then we brought cookies it was yummy. We made our trip back and my cousin was kind. Finally we were at home and my Aunty and Grandma were waiting for us to eat lunch because it was 12:11. We ate toast with bacon and egg it was yummy. We went to the bedroom and talked because we don't really know each other, because when were in Samoa my cousin wasn't born and shes only 7 years old. I felt really whakahirihiri (excited) because they were really kind and I had to share my room with my cousin, all we did was sing songs (church songs). Then on Sunday we got shocking news. Do you want to know what the SHOCKING news was? Well my cousin got married and we didn't even know because when we rang to talk to my Grandma in Samoa they said that they were busy because of my cousins wedding. That's my Amazing Weekend.
