Samoan Sasa

We have begun to learn more about the cultures that Colour Our World.

Today we had Eddie who is a visitor to our class.  He is teaching Michael the drum beat, Lane, Henare and Simba 3 of the sasa actions.  We were all impressed with what they learnt in the first hour of being introduced to the sasa.

Michael felt excited because he hadn't learnt how to drum the sasa beat before.

Lane found it hard to learn the actions but with practice he eventually got it right.

Henare felt amazed because he learnt more about the Samoan Culture.

Simba said "It felt awesome to drum and do the actions."

I have to say I loved seeing the post about how Eddie had come to your clas to teach the Samoan Sasa. I thought it wsa great that you had animated the photographs from it - I saw it in our Room Five class side bar and it was interesting and eye catching so that made me locate the post so I could read it. Just a wonderful experience for your students to have Eddie come in and do some teaching. I used to work in a school where we did a Sasa most days as an enegizer and it was such a positive thing for the students involved.

Will you be leading a whole class version? Will you be filming it and posting it online for it to be shared.
